Twitter Trends in RSS

March 30, 2009

Twitter lists the ten most happening terms (“trending”) on their service on http://search.twitter.com. This often gives you an idea about the most popular things being discussed in the twitter world right now.

A quick glance at it tells me its about Skype being released on the iPhone, Family Guy (Star Trek characters!), Twilight (the movie & books) and also Jim Gaffigan’s “King Baby” Comedy Central special. Now, looking at this tells me I have to watch the latest Family Guy episode and also the Comedy Central special (screw Twilight!). If you’re interested in what’s going on right now then Twitter trends is an amazing tool.

I started looking for something to keep tabs on Twitter trends and couldn’t find something which was very convenient for me, I looked at some Twitter Accounts (RealTimeTrends, tweet_trends) but they just got lost in my Twitter stream. Twopopular is pretty good but not very accessible. I just took matters into my own hands and wrote a simple tool using the Trends API to convert the trending topics to a RSS feed http://rushi.vishavadia.com/twitterTrends. You can add this link as a “Live Bookmark” in Firefox and easily access the trending terms at any given time.

I hope this helps keeping tabs on Twitter a little easier!
