Apple Says iPhone Jailbreaking is Illegal

February 14, 2009

This is just stupid. If I buy the phone, I can do whatever the hell I want with it. Apple wants to enforce criminal penalties of $2,500 and even Jailtime. The New York Times has more info.

Under copyright law, Apple would have the right to claim statutory damages of up to $2,500 “per act of circumvention.” People who jailbreak phones, might even be subject to criminal penalties of as long as five years, if they circumvented copyright for a financial gain.

This is pure FUD from Apple and won’t stand in court.
